Language and Race in Twenty-First Century America
For the past month, America's cities and towns have been sites of the
nation-wide protests following the murder of George Floyd, an African
American man killed by a police officer on May 25, 2020 in Minneapolis,
Minnesota. However, these protests are rooted in a long experience of
systemic racism against black Americans. In this podcast, a recent MA
graduate, Yulia Hathaway, discusses her analysis of contemporary
discourse on race based on the non-fictional writings by an African
American writer, Ta-Nehisi Coates.
